If you have a carpet shampooer, this is a good time to steam clean your carpet, too. For those with area rugs or carpeting, treat carpet stains. If you have hardwood floors, mop them with this homemade floor cleaner to eliminate grime. Switch to the floor attachment and vacuum the rest of the floor. Otherwise, use the crevice attachment to go around the base of your walls and furniture you can’t move. Move furniture if you can to vacuum beneath and behind it. Go ahead and launder your comforter or duvet now, too. Use the floor attachment and vacuum under the bed. Remove any mattress stains you find, then rotate the mattress end to end. Use a damp microfiber cloth to wipe the bed frame, then vacuum the mattress with the upholstery attachment. Remove the mattress cover and take it to the laundry room. A lint roller will get most dust off of the lampshade, though you can also clean your lampshades more thoroughly if they’re smudged or dirty. Once the bulbs are clean, wipe the lamp base and cord. Remove their shades, and wipe the cool bulbs with glass cleaner and a fresh cloth. Turn off any lamps in your room to give them time to cool down. Remember, using a damp or grimy cloth to polish glass surfaces leaves streaks, so switch to a clean one as needed. Use the glass cleaner and fresh cloths to clean the mirrors, inside of windows, and other glass surfaces. Spray glass cleaner on a microfiber cloth and polish the fronts of pictures, then rehang them. You may find it easiest to go over them with a dry cloth to remove debris then a damp cloth to collect any remaining dust. Dust blinds, if you have them, and window trim and sills.Remove any spots you find on the ceilings and walls as you work. Dust the ceiling, walls, and doorframes.Dust the ceiling fan using the long-handled duster or slide a pillowcase over the blades to catch dust.( Here’s the one I use.) For items within reach, use a damp microfiber cloth and rinse it often. You may find it easiest to use a long-handled duster for tall things. This way, you’re not scattering dust over surfaces you’ve already cleaned. When dusting, it’s best to work from top to bottom, left to right. Then remove pictures and artwork from the walls, so they aren’t in your way for the next step.

Strip the bed of all linens, including pillows, but not the mattress cover yet. Remove your window treatments and wash your curtains. Finally, pick up all trash, including any under the bed, nightstand, or dresser, and put it in the garbage bag. You might want to label the boxes, so you don’t get them confused. In another box or bag, gather things you no longer want to keep and put them aside to donate. Don’t get distracted by doing anything with it right now - just set it aside. Then, grab a box and collect everything that doesn’t belong in your bedroom.

Get started with the basic tasks for a daily bedroom tidy by putting dirty clothes in the hamper and putting away things on your nightstand and dresser, but don’t bother making the bed.
